Internet Dating Isn't As Bad As It Seems
It's 4:46 am and I'm just getting home from being out with the new guy I met on the internet. No, internet dating isn't for everyone, but if you're going to take a chance on the virtual realm of dating, why not be completely open with the experience?
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm no rookie when it comes to internet dating; I've been doing this for well over 10 years. I've had some good experiences and some freightening experiences. All in all, they've taught me what I want/don't want in a mate, just as if I was dating someone that I had met through more conventional means, it's all relative.
People always ask me, "Aren't you scared that you're going to end up with some psycho?" or "Girl you better watch out for those men that are just looking for someone to take care of them... the internet is full of them!"... yeah? Well so is everywhere else in the world! And don't you think that if I'm going to meet a psycho, I could meet him anywhere? Whether it's the church (I've met some real heathens there), the grocery store (they're usually married or dating someone), and the gas station. Hell, I've even met guys driving down the interstate. We are all subject to meeting a nut job at some point in our lives. We are not equiped with internal detectors that tell us the good, the bad, and the ugly about everyone that we meet.
My point to this post is that the internet has gotten a bad rap over the years. All of the liars, men/women giving out fake pictures, names, and bios, all the con men/women... the list goes on and on. But just as in any new dating experience, it's only wise that you proceed with caution. I'll admit that I've played the fool one too many times, but you live and learn. I've also met some really great people on the inet and I'm still friends with those few men. As with any relationship, it is what you make it. If you go in being completely naive and ignoring red flags, you can't be mad at anyone but yourself.
